7 healthcare tips for the summer

When it comes to having fun in summer, there are a few things we need to remember when it comes to our health. With summer comes bright sunshine and tons of new activities to enjoy, but also comes new health hazards that we need to protect against. Here are some tips on how to stay healthy during the summer months.

Eat some berries. Berries are high in antioxidants and can help to prevent tissue damage and to reduce any risk to age related diseases; you’ll find that blackberries and blueberries are among the berries with the highest amount of antioxidants. Whether you eat them raw or pack them into a smoothie make sure you’re getting your daily value of berries a day and you’ll be feeling great.

Get dirty, go outside and plant a garden, it will help to improve your stress levels. It doesn’t have to be large to give you a large impact on your life a few flower boxes would do if you’re in a pinch for space. Hanging baskets are also a good idea for those with limited space. By caring for these plants you will be caring for yourself.

Floss, everyone knows that you’re supposed to do this activity twice a day anyways, but some people forget or run out of time in their busy days. Well come summer time you’ll want to get back on track with the flossing. You can do it while doing practically any activity. Flossing helps to reduce oral bacteria which can improve your overall health, bad teeth can be linked to a bad heart. If you manage to floss daily you will be doing better than 85% percent of people around the world.

Go exercise, it doesn’t have to be overkill, just one activity that you enjoy doing that you can do during the summer months will suffice to help bring up your energy level and fitness level. Some people may want to start with walking and graduate to things like biking or even canoeing. Either way get out and enjoy the weather while it’s here and shed a few pounds while you’re at it.

Be good to your eyes and protect your vision. To protect your vision, cover your eyes with protective eyewear when outdoors in the bright sun, wear sunglasses. Sunglasses can block 99% of ultraviolet a and b rays which can help prevent you from developing cataracts in the future, it also helps to reduce the amount of wrinkles around your eyes.

Alcohol, go light. With summer around the corner many people will be upping the amount of alcohol that they drink daily, but you may want to reconsider this, it is ok to drink, but always in moderation. You might want to choose different types of drinks to keep the alcohol content down while still enjoying an alcoholic beverage. Some examples of this are to choose a wine cooler instead of hard liquor or to choose a sangria, cold beer or wine spritzer. If you stick to just two drinks a day you’ll get to enjoy your alcohol while still gaining the healthy benefits of heart health without going overboard.

Sleep well. You need to resist the urge to stay up later on the long summer days. Instead keep to a good balanced sleep schedule with a proper bedtime and wake up time; this will help you make you feel refreshed and well rested for the days to come. It is also a good idea to try and steer clear of taking naps during the summer months as the days are longer and it will disturb your sleep schedule.
